Introduction
Freemius-powered WordPress plugins occasionally offer beta versions that provide early access to new features and improvements. This article explains how to opt into beta versions for plugins like Display Eventbrite Events that use the Freemius platform.
Prerequisites
- You must have a Freemius-powered plugin already installed and activated on your WordPress site
- You should have administrator access to your WordPress dashboard
- It’s recommended to test beta versions on a staging or development site, not a production site
Step-by-Step Instructions
Using the Plugin’s Account Page
- Navigate to the Plugin’s Account Page
- Log in to your WordPress admin dashboard
- Go to the plugin’s settings page ( normally – navigate to Settings > Plugin Name)
- Click on the Account link – or Account tab in the plugin’s settings
- Access Beta Opt-in Setting
- Scroll down to find the Beta Program section
- You should see an option labeled “Join our beta program and get early access to new versions”
- Toggle this option to ON
- Save Your Settings
- Click the Save Changes button at the bottom of the page
- The page will refresh, confirming your beta program enrollment
Updating to the Beta Version
After enabling beta access:
- Check for Updates
- Go to Dashboard > Updates in your WordPress admin
- Click Check for Updates if no updates appear automatically
- Alternatively, go to the Plugins page and check for update notifications
- Install the Beta Update
- If a beta version is available, you’ll see an update notification
- Click the Update Now link for the plugin
- The beta version will be installed
Important Considerations
- Beta versions may contain bugs or unfinished features,ideally use on staging of dev sites only ( see Freemius licences for Development and Staging )
- Always backup your site before installing beta software
- Report any issues you encounter to us
- Beta versions may be updated frequently
- You can opt out of the beta program at any time using the same methods
Troubleshooting
If you don’t see beta updates after opting in:
- Make sure a beta version is actually available (not all plugins have beta versions at all times)
- Try clearing your browser cache and WordPress transient cache
- Confirm you have proper permissions to install updates
- Check if your site is blocking auto-update checks
Reverting to Stable Version
To revert back to the stable channel:
- Turn off the beta option in the plugin’s account page
- If you need to downgrade to the latest stable version:
- Log in to your account at FullWorks Plugins
- Navigate to the Downloads section
- Download the latest stable version ZIP file
- In your WordPress admin, go to Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin
- Upload and install the stable version ZIP file you downloaded
- Activate the plugin after installation
